Awards & Recognition

Sylvia Vicq Award Criteria

Every second year, READ Saskatoon recognizes a tutor who goes above and beyond tutoring expectations.

Is your tutor really great? If you think your tutor should have a special award, call READ Saskatoon at 652-5448.

You can tell us a story about how your tutor has helped you with your reading and writing. (Please don't tell your tutor about this award - we want to keep it a secret.)

Winners:   Nancy Senior (2008) |  Joe Eley (2006)  | Carole Neivadomy (2004)

Joe Eley (2006)

I am very glad to present the award to my tutor, Joe Eley. I think he deserves it. We have been working together for 16 months, and we have come to know each other. Our meetings have become a kind of unforgettable memories.

Joe is a polite person who loves to read and has a solid knowledge about lots of things. He even helped me in the thesis preparation of my master degree in organic chemistry, on presentations for my masters program and in hunting for a job and for a house to purchase.

What he has been doing exceeds what he should do as a voluntary tutor.

Finally, I’d like to say “Thank you, Joe and READ Saskatoon”. You will be in my memories forever.

Carole Neivadomy (2004)

Carole – meaning – French origin
A joyous song
A melody or a song

  • C  creative, credible, cultured, character, candid, capable, cheerful, compassionate, considerate
  • A  advocate, ambitious, amicable, accepting
  • R  responsible, resourceful, respectable, rhythmic, rewarding
  • O  observant, openminded, organized
  • L  loving, life, loyal

I took Carol’s name and broke it up there was not to much left to describe this wonderful person. When I came to Read Saskatoon I never thought I would meet such an astonishing lady. Carol has taught me so much, jus not in reading and learning but a lot about myself and my credibility There are so many things that make Carol special, like the thoughtful things she says the thoughtful pleasant things she does. “But” what stands out the most about Carol is the way she gives herself. Carol is such an inspiration it was easy to learn. Carol believed in me so I gave all I could in return. Carol is such an accepting person and I felt so comfortable being myself around Carol her that is why I had a great success in my learning.

If it was not for Read Saskatoon and volenter’s like Carol, I would not be writing this article. Thumbs up to all of you.

Carol thank you for everything that you have done for me its not just for the learning but for the repect the friendship the laughter and the crying we shared and Carol just for listning. God bless you.

As always
Dorothy
