Come Read With Me Facilitator Training
Come Read With Me (CRWM) is based on the premise that parents and children learn together and enhance each other’s lives. The program uses children's books as a starting point for development of literacy skills and discussion of a wide range of parenting issues. CRWM is a flexible program that may be adapted to a variety of settings.
The goals of CRWM are to:
- Help parents appreciate and understand their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
- Encourage reading as a fun and valuable activity for both parents and children.
- Use children’s books to strengthen bonds and relationships.
- Assist parents at all levels of literacy in helping their children develop pre-reading and reading skills.
- Use children’s books to explore relevant themes and topics that relate to individual and family situations.
- Create support networks within the program that may lead to greater community involvement.
- Encourage life-long learning.
The CRWM facilitator training prepares individuals to facilitate CRWM groups in their communities. It covers:
- child development
- choosing age appropriate books
- modifying books to suit older or younger readers using activities, finger plays, songs and rhymes, family literacy and learning.
The training also raises more general issues such as the basic principles of adult education, the background and philosophy of the family literacy movement, the principles of small group instruction, and the importance of assessment and evaluation. Training is 2 full days.
If your staff & parents are interested, dates can be set and there will be a fee for service of $2000.

From Diapers to Duct Tape
Presented by the Regina and Balcarres Literacy Networks, this six hour training utilizes a balance of hands on activities, group work and multimedia presentations. The eight week family literacy program uses a variety of children’s story books to help fathers in your program understand the objectives of the programs listed below. The use of children’s story books allows us to engage fathers at most literacy levels and increase their literacy skills as well while modeling to them how
they can use the books to teach their own children life lessons and social competencies
on their own.
This program can be used as a family literacy program or a Father Support Group or Parenting

A fun filled opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about fun ways to make father friendly accommodations to programs you are already running or start a new program using our session outlines that is entirely geared towards dads of all ages.
