RESOURCES FOR THOSE WHO WORK WITH CHILDRENFAMILY LEARNING OLYMPICSThe Family Learning Olympics event consists of twelve Olympic themed stations but with a literacy twist! Each station is geared for children from pre K to grade 8, with parent involvement. It is necessary for your group to have at least 12 volunteers to assist families at each station. The event can run from 1-2 hours. The goal of the event is to demonstrate for parents and children the fun of learning together and that literacy is more than reading and writing. Some of the stations include numeracy, map reading, crafts, making a book together, physical activity, family tradition, storytelling and culture. READ staff will assist your group for the event if you don't already have training. Once we have hosted one with you, you are welcome to borrow the kit and use it as often as you would like. The cost is $50 to replace the "consumables" that come in the kit ie: paint, construction paper, socks, stuffing, handouts...etc. You can involve food as a station: the literacy café where families build their own snack idea or kickoff the event with a bbq or supper! The ideas are endless! Call our office to book your event at 652-5448. |
