Literacy Program Assistant – Summer Student
We are searching for a creative, dynamic, energetic summer student. This is a full-time summer position starting May 16 until June 24, 2022. This position pays $18.00/hr.

Job Purpose
The Literacy Program Assistant supports READ Saskatoon summer literacy initiatives for six weeks and is responsible for literacy material creation, duplication, and distribution.
Major Responsibilities
- Duplicate Family Literacy Event Materials
- Follow budget guidelines
- Purchase and assemble materials required for two family literacy event kits: The Saskatchewan Odyssey and Payday Playday
- Ensure the creation of the kits meets program standards
- Prepare Family and Children’s literacy kits for distribution
- Work alongside literacy coordinators to determine scope of summer work
- Prepare literacy kits for Spark and ongoing Family Literacy programming
- Provide support to Financial and Adult literacy coordinators
- Assist with program material duplication
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Working towards degree or diploma in education or related field
- Current Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Interest in family and children’s literacy is an asset
- Understanding and appreciation of cultural adaptation
- Ability to develop positive and collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders (parent groups, children, community-based organizations, partners)
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to monitor and assess learning progress and provide feedback on achievements
Experience
- Experience in customer service
- Experience working with children and families is an asset
Working Conditions
